DeSantis Withdraws Death Warrant in Rare Last-Minute Move

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has cancelled a death warrant for William Lee Thompson, 74, who was found guilty of murder in Miami-Dade County. It is the first time DeSantis has pulled back an execution order. A second execution was still scheduled for Tuesday.

The move came days after a failed execution attempt involving Christa Pike raised fresh scrutiny over Florida's capital punishment procedures. The governor gave no immediate public explanation for withdrawing the warrant for Thompson in particular.
