The RSPCA has published a warning for anyone using football nets during the World Cup. Deer and foxes have got caught in abandoned nets. When the net snaps or pulls hard, the animals can get seriously injured or even die. The charity says the problem shows up most in the peak summer sports season.
RSPCA asks fans and garden owners to keep nets stored properly after a game and to throw away old netting the right way. Proper handling may keep wildlife out of trouble. Stowage of nets clear of animal paths and disposing of them safely helps protect local fauna and cuts preventable injuries.
