London Mayor Sadiq Khan now holds a lifelong seat as a member of the House of Lords. The UK Prime Minister announced the decision on July 16, 2026. It is part of a batch of 26 new Lords named that day. Khan leaves his elected mayor role for an appointed one in Parliament’s upper chamber . The others named will also start duties in the Lords under the same list.
