New rules cap many international student visas at four years. The duration applies to F, J, and I visas. Homeland Security also reduced the post-graduation grace period from half a year to 30 days.
Students now get a fixed term unless their program qualifies for exceptions. The tighter rules were released earlier this month by official representatives.
