Russia claims that its two-seat Su-57 jet will operate using onboard combat AI. Russia designated this new twin-seat variant the Su-57D. Defense officials built the jet to compete with Western fifth-generation fighters. However, the Russian fleet of Su-57 jets remains small.

In contrast, a small European country currently flies twice as many fifth-generation fighters as Russia. The gap in aircraft numbers remains despite Russian efforts to install combat AI capabilities to the Su-57D. Simple Flying and MiGFlug highlighted the modest fleet numbers in addition to the planned artificial intelligence features.
