The crew of The Rookie has apologised for the sharp cliffhanger ending to Season 8. The audience had been left hanging after the closing scene ended mid-action. Creator Alexi Hawley said at a fan event that Season 9's opening will be expanded past the standard run. Nathan Fillion said that filming for Season Nine starts on a date in early August.
