A huge earthquake rocked Mexico this morning. The tremor ran minutes and measured 7.3. Its center was off the coast near Guatemala. The jolt arrived at 11:10am local time. Intense shaking spread fast. Tsunami notifications went up at once. Mexico and Guatemala faced alerts for high waves. People along the shore moved quickly to higher ground. Aftershocks persisted, some strong. The biggest aftershock reached 5.0. No big damage or injuries were reported yet. Homes and streets were quiet in Chiapas and nearby areas. Tsunami alerts were active for hours. They were later cancelled as seas stayed calm.
